Jackson Street, Petone is the Hutt’s jewel in the crown, and the same can be said for The Empire
in relation to Jackson Street. This contemporary gastro-pub (a pub serving great food) is nothing of
its former self except for the stunning ceilings which have been lovingly restored. While The Empire
resides in an historic building, the fit out is completely new down to the lovely polished floor
boards, as is the attitude, service and menu, giving not only Petone but the Hutt a bar and restaurant
of international quality and distinction.
There’s a lot to admire and enjoy about The Empire. Not least is the huge, landscaped outdoor
area providing ample handcrafted seating and tables to ensure family and friends can enjoy a long
relaxing afternoon or evening where the kids can run around without getting under everyone’s feet.
With a stylish interior, booths and centrally located bar and seating, you can enjoy The Empire
for a casual drink, snacks or great meals. A unique part of the menu is Stonegrilled meals which are
cooked on a heated volcanic stone and brought to your table cooking. Stonegrilled cooking is
recognised as one of the healthiest methods of cooking with specially selected food (meal choices
including chicken, salmon, venison, pork or beef) trimmed of fat and cooked without oils. There’s
also a vegetarian option.
The Empire serves an excellent range of wines, craft and premium beers, including an Empire Ale
and has shelves dedicated to whiskeys. For functions or parties, the rear dining room is private and
with a 50” plasma TV provides the ideal venue for a boys or girls night out, business or club
meeting.
If you’re looking for a hot spot in Petone then you don’t need to go further than The Empire.
Check out the Gig Guide for the latest events.
There's action at The Empire everynight including weekend rock and jazz bands.
